Buildings breathe.
Systems think.
Spaces remember.

Marlowe Studio is a small, independent design practice working at the seam of architecture, computation, and material culture — eleven commissions a year, never more.

We design for the long time — not the next quarter.

A building is finished the day it opens. Then it begins its real life: thirty, sixty, a hundred years of weather, repair, occupation, reinterpretation. We design for that life, not for the photograph.

Our drawings are slow on purpose. Every line is a decision someone will live with — a tenant, a maintenance crew, a future architect reading the section a decade from now.

01

Slow drawings, fast models

We sketch in pencil, model in three dimensions, and only commit to CAD once the idea has been tested in our hands. The slow part is the thinking; the fast part is the making.

02

Material before form

Every project begins with a sample in the hand — stone, timber, brass, lime. The form follows what the material wants to do, not the other way around.

03

Site as collaborator

A site is not a problem to solve but a partner to listen to. We spend the first month of every commission just being there — at different hours, in different weather.

04

Computation in service of restraint

We write our own scripts, but only to remove material, never to add it. The best parametric model is the one that returns a smaller, simpler building.

A small vocabulary, used carefully.

We work across six disciplines, but every project draws on all of them. The list is not a menu — it is the language we speak, and we are still learning it.

Tell us about the place, not the brief.

We take on eleven commissions a year and we are currently booking projects for spring 2026. Write to us about the site, the people who will use it, and what is already there.
